What Is My IP?

Find the public IP address your internet connection presents to online services. You can also view approximate location, ISP, organization and network information associated with that address in public IP databases.

Detecting your public IP address…

The address is detected when this page loads. Additional network and geolocation information may be retrieved from an external IP information service.

How to use this tool

  1. Open the page and wait for your public IP address to be detected.
  2. Review the network and approximate location information returned by the data source.
  3. Use the information to troubleshoot network settings or understand how your connection appears online.

If you are connected through a VPN, proxy, mobile carrier network or corporate network, the displayed IP and location may represent that network rather than your local connection.

What this tool does

This tool detects the public IP address associated with your current internet connection and displays available network information. Depending on the external data source, this may include country, region, city, timezone, organization, ASN and other network details.

The geographic information is an estimate. IP databases are built from network, registration and other data sources, so results can vary between providers and can change over time.

How it works

  1. Your browser requests the public IP address used by your connection.
  2. The detected address can then be used to retrieve additional network information.
  3. The external data source returns the information available for that IP address.
  4. YourAnalystAI displays the returned information in the tool interface.

Limitations & transparency

IP geolocation is approximate. An IP address does not normally provide the exact physical location of a device. The estimated location may correspond to an ISP facility, network hub, data center or another location associated with the address.

VPNs, proxies, carrier-grade NAT, mobile networks and corporate networks can also affect the address and location shown by the tool.

This page uses external services to detect or enrich IP information. Their handling of requests is governed by their respective policies. See the Privacy Policy for information about YourAnalystAI.

Key IP address terms

Public IP address
The IP address that internet services can see when your connection communicates with them. It may be assigned to your router, ISP network, mobile connection or another gateway.
IPv4 and IPv6
IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses such as 8.8.8.8, while IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses such as 2606:4700:4700::1111. Both are internet addressing systems.
ASN
An Autonomous System Number identifies an autonomous system that participates in internet routing. ISPs, cloud providers and other network operators can have one or more ASNs.
ISP / organization
This information identifies the network operator or organization associated with an IP address range according to the database being used.
IP geolocation
A method of estimating the geographic area associated with an IP address. It should not be treated as an exact GPS location.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is my public IP address?
Your public IP address is the address that online services can see when your internet connection communicates with them. It identifies a network connection rather than automatically identifying a specific person.
Why is the displayed location not exact?
IP geolocation databases provide estimates based on network and registration information. The result can point to an ISP facility, network hub, data center or another location associated with the address rather than your exact location.
Does a VPN change the result?
Usually, yes. A VPN or proxy can cause websites to see the public IP address associated with the VPN or proxy rather than the address normally used by your local internet connection.
Can an IP address reveal my exact home address?
An IP address by itself generally does not reveal an exact street address. Public databases may provide approximate geographic or network information, but accuracy varies by IP address and data provider.
Why can two IP lookup services show different locations?
Different IP information providers maintain different databases and update them at different times. As a result, country, city, organization or other information can differ between services.
