Our Mission

In an increasingly connected world, understanding your digital footprint begins with understanding your public IP address. Every device that accesses the internet is assigned an address that identifies where traffic should be delivered. Yet for many people, how IP addresses work, what information they expose, and how network routing functions remains opaque.

MyIP.Tool was created to solve this problem: to provide an immediate, accurate, and completely transparent diagnostic dashboard that anyone—from everyday internet users verifying a VPN connection to network administrators debugging routing issues—can use freely without registration, hidden tracking, or intrusive paywalls.

Our Core Commitment: We believe utility websites should be genuinely useful, accurate, and honest about their technical limitations. We do not invent fake statistics, we do not make exaggerated security claims, and we never store your IP address in any persistent database.

What You Can Use MyIP.Tool For

Our tools are designed to serve a broad range of practical networking needs:

  • VPN & Proxy Verification: Confirm that your VPN or proxy server is properly routing your traffic and masking your residential IP address before browsing sensitive sites.
  • Dual-Stack IPv4 & IPv6 Testing: Check whether your ISP has deployed modern IPv6 addressing to your router or if you are running exclusively on legacy IPv4.
  • Remote Work & Server Whitelisting: Quickly copy your current public IP address to provide to workplace firewalls, SSH servers, cloud databases, or gaming servers that restrict access by IP.
  • ISP & ASN Diagnostics: Identify the Autonomous System Number (ASN), organization name, and routing network responsible for your internet transit.
  • Edge Latency Checks: Measure real HTTP round-trip latency from your browser to major global edge networks (Cloudflare, Google, Fastly) to evaluate connection responsiveness.
  • Educational Reference: Read our comprehensive, human-written guide covering subnetting, NAT, DNS, dynamic IP leases, firewalls, and online privacy.

How Our Technology Works

When you visit MyIP.Tool, the following sequence occurs entirely client-side in your browser:

  1. Your browser sends standard HTTPS connection requests to reputable public IP information endpoints (such as ipapi.co, with automatic failover to ipwho.is and api64.ipify.org).
  2. The API server reads the source IP address headers that your device transmits as part of normal TCP/IP internet communication.
  3. The API cross-references your public IP against Regional Internet Registry (RIR) databases (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC) to determine the registered network provider, country, region, and approximate geographic centroid.
  4. The structured JSON response is rendered directly onto your screen, and coordinates are used to center an interactive Leaflet map using OpenStreetMap tiles.

No software or browser extension needs to be installed, and no data is written to any database on our hosting server.

Understanding Geolocation Limitations

We believe it is essential to be completely transparent about what IP geolocation can—and cannot—do. Many websites mislead visitors into believing that an IP address can pinpoint someone's exact front door. This is technically untrue.

  • IP geolocation is always an approximation: Database entries represent geographic centroids (such as the center of a city, zip code area, or telephone exchange) or the corporate office where an ISP registered a subnet block.
  • Typical accuracy: Country-level data is generally 95%–99% accurate; city-level accuracy typically ranges from 50% to 75%.
  • Physical address privacy: An IP address alone never reveals your street name, house number, apartment, or physical identity. Only your ISP possesses records linking a dynamic IP lease to an individual customer account, and those records are protected by law and only disclosed under valid legal subpoenas.

Notice: Because IP geolocation relies on commercial database approximations, it must never be used for emergency services dispatch, law enforcement action without judicial verification, or any application requiring precise physical coordinates.

Privacy & Data Transparency

Unlike many ad-heavy utilities that track users across the web, MyIP.Tool operates on minimal data principles:

  • We do not require user accounts, emails, or logins to access our tools.
  • We do not set first-party tracking or behavioral profiling cookies.
  • When advertising (such as Google AdSense) is present, it is clearly demarcated, adheres to standard advertising regulations, and provides links to opt out of personalized tracking.
  • To learn more about how third-party APIs process data, please review our comprehensive Privacy Policy.
